The Midwest Atlantic Region is holding a G.R.E.A.T. Essay Contest, open to all middle school G.R.E.A.T. classes throughout our 16-state area.  These states include:  Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey.

Who can submit an essay?
All middle school students participating in the 13-lesson G.R.E.A.T. Program this year are eligible to submit an essay.

What is the topic of the essay?
Each essay should be inspired by the topics learned from the G.R.E.A.T. Program.  The essay could include a situation the student found himself/herself in and how they used their G.R.E.A.T. skills to handle it; or a simple essay to teach others how important the G.R.E.A.T. program is in the student's life.  Be creative!

Since this is a contest, is there a prize?
Yes, there will be one essay picked from each state (potentially 16 winners in all).  The students with the winning essay from each state will receive a G.R.E.A.T. gift, a certificate, and a mention in our Fall Newsletter.  In addition, that student's school will also receive a G.R.E.A.T. Banner to display in the school.  We also will be awarded a prize to the winning student's G.R.E.A.T. officer. 

When is the deadline?
Essays must be mailed and postmarked by Monday, May 3, 2010.  Or, you may email essays to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than Monday, May 3, 2010.  Winners will be notified no later than Friday, May 14, 2010.
